GO Centre Project Status Report to March 01, 2011

The following is the status of the Go Community Centre Project, located on the University of Alberta South Campus. This report is based on information provided by the Design Builder and observations by the GO Community Centre’s Project Manager, Don Stenson.

Design:
The project working drawings are complete.

Construction:
Work continues to progress well. However, not as well as in the past but we are getting to the finishing stages. To maintain quality, the work tends to appear to slow in comparison to the structure. Currently I estimate the project to be approximately 6 weeks behind. Our contractor is now projecting a substantial competition date of May 18, 2011 and believes it is achievable but I believe it continues to be very tight.

Approximately 95% of the concrete slabs have been placed. The only slab not poured is the Main Lobby and that is due to some severe weather condition we have experienced over the last month. The building has been closed in for some time now with the exception of the Main Lobby area which, again, due to the severe weather this past month is in progress but progressing very slowly. We anticipate the entire building to be closed in by the end of March, 2011.

The mechanical and electrical systems are well on their way to being completed. The building is on permanent power now and within the next three weeks all the building mechanical systems will be fully operational.

Steel Studs and Drywall continues to progress well with over 75% of that work completed. Painting and ceramic tile work is well under way and is progressing well. The hardwood flooring for the south court is all installed and finishing of that floor will start next week. The north court hardwood flooring has also begun and completion is expected to be in 2 to 3 weeks. The flooring subcontractor will then move into the Spectator gym to complete the hardwood. Gymnastic area is well under way and the interior partitions are proceeding.

As mentioned earlier in my report, the front lobby is a little behind schedule primarily due to weather conditions over the winter. However, the work is proceeding and the contractor is making every effort to try and pick up some of the time lost. Currently the structure is complete and roof system is in place. The lobby has been hoarded in and temporary heat is being applied to reduce any more frost in the subsurface. Construction priority remains to be the completion and commissioning of the permanent air handling equipment and the hardwood flooring.

Budget:
To date the project remains on budget and the overall project is approximately 80% complete.
