Program Information

Competitive Trampoline & Tumbling: 3 to 4 times a week for 3 hours each class, depending on the level that the athlete wishes to compete. Due to the demanding nature of this program, it will be for serious athletes looking to compete provincially, nationally, and beyond.

F.A.S.T.:
We would like to welcome you to the Ortona competitive trampoline and tumbling entry point. This program called F.A.S.T. which is an acronym for foundation acrobatic and strength testing is the first step to become one of our amazing trampoline and tumbling competitive athletes.

In FAST the athletes are taught mini routines on all three events as well as prepared for all of the physical tests they will be challenged with. This training will culminate with competition type events 4 times a year. The three events that they will be challenged with are trampoline, tumbling and double mini trampoline.

In trampoline the athletes are taught mini routines that consist of the basic skills that are required to master some of the most difficult trampoline skills later on. They are challenged not only to learn proper positions in these skills but also how to gain and keep the height of their bounce while doing it. This is important as when they compete at both the provincial then the national levels they are marked on this aspect right from the start.

The second of three events is tumbling. Here they are challenged with developing a rigid body and a powerful rebound. They learn how to connect a series of skills with control and form. The skills keep building towards a strong and powerful back handspring, arguably the most important skill in provincial level tumbling. The last event they train for is double mini. On this event they learn how to control their height while twisting and flipping. We also spend a lot of time perfecting their run as it is very important here. A strong powerful run makes all the difference on this event and is has a lot of carry over for tumbling as well.

The four yearly FAST competitive type events also have strength and flexibility testing. Here the athletes are marked on their shoulder and hip flexibility. Also the top coaches from around the province have gotten together to identify which strengths are the most important to excel in this sport. They then developed a series of tests to help clubs work towards achieving these strengths. With weighted sit-ups, rope climb with no legs and handstand hold against a wall the athletes are pushed to the limits here for sure.

The reason these are competitive type events and not just a competition is that they are not competing against each other but are just trying to beat their own scores from event to event.

There are three levels to FAST and once they graduate from the third level they will be more than prepared to start competing provincially. They will have the skills and form necessary to step in front of judges and do very well. Level one FAST athletes train twice a week for two hours each and level two and three athletes train twice a week for three hours. This is a full year program with practices running all summer. If you feel your athlete is up for the challenge we hope you will consider Ortona and our FAST program.

The sky is the limit!
