Important:
Insurance is an important issue in the sport of Gymnastics and the Alberta Gymnastics Federation (AGF) is continually researching and monitoring the conditions, provincially and nationally of it programs.
Recently it was brought to AGF’s attention that member clubs were allowing parents participating in Parent and Tot classes to bring siblings of the registered participant to class. The sibling is usually in a baby carrier (sling, backpack, seat etc.) or similar device. This poses a safety issue, potentially interfering with the training of the child, not to mention the risk to the infant sibbling. This includes children in strollers or car seats on the sidelines or in the viewing area as they pose a significant risk to the organization. Classes should be a parent/ child experience with the parents undivided attention. In order to have you and your child experience the best class possible Ortona and the Alberta Gymnastics Federation ask that you:
1. Parents in the class are required to be actively supervising and assisting their child throughout the circuits.
2. Parents provide a second caregiver to supervise sibblings either at home or in gym viewing area at all times for any sibblings.
Liability with respect to injury suffered by a minor is very strict, and very difficult to defend against. Providing any form of childcare or supervision for these children by the club whether it be expressed or implied is an unsanctioned AGF activity and there for NOT covered by the AGF insurance policy.
