CanJump 1 & 2  - LTAD 2

The CanJump program allows athletes to develop their skills in trampoline, double mini-trampoline and tumbling. Each step leads to more advanced skills. There are 12 different steps to help athletes develop flexibility, courage, strength, technique and landings in a safe environment. Class length depends on the step.

CanJump Steps 1 & 2 is a one hour class that builds on the basic landings and shape jumps of trampoline. Participants will further develop body awareness on the trampoline by beginning to add twists and turns to their seat drops and front drops. Participants will also develop their tumbling skills as they learn dive rolls and handstands. Participants will also be introduced to double mini-tramp where they will work on takeoff and bouncing through to twisting combinations.

Step 1: Athletes will learn how to land forwards and backwards from short heights, stepping jumps, forward rolls, proper body support position and beginner cartwheels.

Step 2:  Athletes will learn skills such as handstands, cartwheels, beginner roundoffs, seat drops, back drops and twisting jumps.

*Steps 1-2 are part of the same class. While the athlete can advance faster in one discipline than another, all compulsory skills must be completed to advance to step 3 and beyond.

Alberta Gymnastics Federation classifies this program in their Developmental Stream Membership Category. OGC will register your athlete in accordance with AGF’s current requirements; in addition, OGC will incur any extra costs to register your athlete in this AGF category, provided a current Ortona Recreational Membership is purchased (Unfortunately Membership Transfers from other clubs do not qualify for this accommodation).

CanJump is Canada’s recreational development program for trampoline and tumbling. Trampoline and Tumbling (T&T) consists of 3 disciplines; Trampoline, Double mini-trampoline (DMT) and Tumbling. CanJump was designed to cover the basics of the sport.

CanJump is a safe, fun, and motivational program that allows participants to track their progress throughout their classes. It is comprised of 12 different levels. It is an individually paced program. That means no pass or fail!

Program is broken down into tiers:

  • Steps 1 & 2: Focus on basic development – LTAD 2 (ages 6-12)
  • Steps 3 & 4: Focus on skill acquisition – LTAD 2 (ages 8+)
  • Steps 5 - 8: Focus on combinations of skills & mastering of skills- LTAD 3 (ages 8+)

In order to progress to the next tier, all compulsory skills must be achieved. For example, in order to advance to Step 3&4 all skills must be successfully completed in steps 1&2.

Gymnastics is a fun-filled, non-contact activity through which children can develop self-confidence, experience a wide variety of challenges and opportunity for social interaction.
Gymnastics helps develop physical literacy in children. The development of these physical tools are needed to take part in activity and sport, both for healthy life-long enjoyment and for sporting success. You’re never too young to gain something positive from the sport of gymnastics.
For full details on Long Term Athlete Development refer to Gymnastics Canada website. We have selected a highlight from each stage.
